SANTA MONICA—The city of Santa Monica announced on its website on July 11 that there will be a Compost Giveaway on Saturday, July 19.

The giveaway will take place at the City Yards located at 2500 Michigan Avenue from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The compost is a first come, first serve while supplies last, so make sure to come early.

Anyone picking up compost, should bring gloves and containers — as this is a self-service event.

There will be free food scrap pails given during the event to make collecting food scarps at home easier.

The event is open to Santa Monica residents, but they must bring proof of residency. For questions, call customer service at (866) 311-7266.
