SANTA MONICA—On June 23 at approximately 4:34 p.m. two suspects broke into the Amai Coffee shop located at 1701 Pico Boulevard. The coffee shop’s surveillance cameras captured video footage of the incident. The Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) posted it on Instagram.

Canyon News reached out to SMPD for more information. The following video was provided, with permissions by SMPD Lieutenant Lewis Gilmour.

SMPD is seeking public assistance identifying the suspects and bringing them to justice.
The following descriptions of the suspects came directly from SMPD:

“Suspect 1 (S1): Male, average build, wearing a black sweater, black face mask, blue jeans, and black shoes.

Suspect 2 (S2): Male, average build, wearing a black FILA sweater (white lettering), red face mask, black pants, and black shoes.

If you recognize these suspects, the vehicle, or have any information that may assist in this investigation, please contact Detective Sean Baker (sean.baker@santamonica.gov) or Detective Sergeant Shaun Cooney (Shaun.Cooney@santamonica.gov) at 310-458-8932.

Your support is vital in helping us maintain the safety of the Santa Monica community.”

Reports indicate that this is not a singular incident. The same coffee shop along with Dr. T. House, a neighboring business was targeted in a similar crime close to three months ago.

Amai Coffee did not report anything stolen. The broken glass in the door cost the business at least $1,000.00 in addition to lost business due to the condition of the door.
