BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills issued a public safety advisory on its Facebook page in response to the current heat wave. The announcement includes heat safety tips advising residents to drink water throughout the day, limit strenuous activity during peak hours, wear loose clothing, and stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces. City officials recommend checking on friends and family members, including vulnerable individuals like children and the elderly.
The city opened three cooling centers at the Beverly Hills Public Library, Roxbury Park Community Center, and La Cienega Park Community Center. The cooling centers are free, air-conditioned public spaces where people can find temporary relief during the heat wave.
With temperatures in the area reaching the upper 80s and low 90s, officials are asking residents to watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and fainting. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should move to an indoor or shaded area to cool down as soon as possible.
Heat stroke is severe and is considered a medical emergency, where individuals can encounter symptoms like a very high body temperature, confusion, unconsciousness, or hot or red skin> If such symptoms occur, they should seek immediate medical attention by calling 911.
