SANTA MONICA—On Tuesday, March 17, the city of Santa Monica posted on its Facebook page that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory through Friday.

According to the NWS, the heat event carries an elevated risk of heat illness across the general population. Community members are strongly encouraged to take precautions and utilize available cooling resources.

-Ocean Park Branch
-Pico Branch
-Main Library

Tips to Stay Safe in the Heat:

-Close blinds and curtains during the day to block heat
-Drink water consistently — do not wait until you feel thirsty
-Wear loose, light-colored, breathable clothing
-Use fans and limit strenuous outdoor activity
-Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle
-Open windows in the evening to allow cooler air to circulate

Residents are asked to check on neighbors, seniors, and those without access to cooling.

MALIBU—On Monday, March 16, the National Weather Service, which is located in Los Angeles and Oxnard, issued a heat advisory for the Los Angeles area, including Malibu and Santa Monica, this week.

Per the statement released on the city of Malibu’s Facebook page, temperatures will range between 85 and 95 degrees. The heat advisory will last until Friday at 8 p.m. Temperatures in the Santa Monica Mountains and other mountainous areas will be hotter than on the Malibu coast. Heat in mountainous areas will be even worse at night, as temperatures will rise after the sun sets.

MALIBU—The city of Malibu posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday, March 11 that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the region, including Malibu, from 10 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday, with temperatures of 90–100°F expected (lower on the coast). Hot weather is expected for about 7 days. NEVER leave kids or pets in vehicles.

While Malibu’s coast will be a bit cooler, temperatures in the Santa Monica Mountains will be very hot.

There is a high risk of heat illness for sensitive groups, including young children, older adults, people without air conditioning, and those active outdoors.

SAFETY TIPS:
• NEVER leave children or pets unattended in cars – it can be deadly!
• Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid hiking except very early in the morning
• Do not take dogs hiking – they can quickly overheat and may not show warning signs

MALIBU—On Saturday, March 7, the National Weather Service Station located in both Oxnard and Los Angeles issued a heat advisory for the Malibu coast for Sunday, March 8.

The heat advisory will go into effect at 10 a.m. on Sunday and it will be lifted at 6 p.m.

Two of the areas impacted by the heat advisory are the recreation centers that are located in the Santa Monica Mountains, which are located both east and west of the city.
