MALIBU—The city of Malibu announced on its website on February 2 that it is currently hiring for a Building Inspector to support community safety, development & fire rebuild. The salary is: $93,384–$121,844.

Santa Monica Hiring For Senior Legal Analyst

SANTA MONICA—On Monday, February 2, the city of Santa Monica posted on its Facebook page that it is accepting applications for several positions, including a current opening for a Senior Legal Analyst in the Criminal Unit within the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office.

The position offers a competitive salary and benefits and provides analytical and legal support for the Criminal Unit. This is a full-time two-year limited term position to collaborate with the Criminal Prosecution unit on its newly established SaMo Bridge program, addressing recidivism among homeless adults with justice system involvement.

Candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter with strong project management skills and experience administering government grant programs. Working knowledge in the areas of homeless services, criminal justice, law enforcement, and related fields is desired. Experience overseeing all financial aspects of grant administration, including budget management, financial analysis, invoicing and reimbursement processes is desired.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should be familiar with all Microsoft software including Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, and One Drive. Candidate should establish and maintain working relationships with City personnel, other government agencies, police departments, and the public.

Graduation from an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent of three years’ experience in administrative services, legal services, law enforcement, homeless service, social work or public health; 3-5 years’ experience in these fields preferred. This position is part of the Public Attorney’s Legal Support Staff Union.

The hours of the position are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on alternate Fridays. This is a 9/80 work schedule. Hybrid remote work schedule is currently available. Evening and weekend duties may be required to facilitate community meetings and events. A background check will be required prior to beginning employment.

The city of Beverly Hills is seeking a qualified Police Media Technician, who will provide support services to the Beverly Hills Police Department and technical support to the Police Records Manager. The Police Media Technician will design, implement, configure, test, and maintain Body Worn Camera (BWC) and Mobile Audio Video (MAV) systems. The Police Media Technician also provides training and support related to systems, processes discovery, subpoenas, and Public Records Act requests. 

This is the journey level in the single level technical class. Incumbents initially perform the more routine duties assigned to positions in this series and work under close supervision. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Body Worn Cameras, Mobile Audio Video Systems, and other digital media. They should possess analytical and effective communication skills, high interpersonal qualities, and a desire to enhance the Records Bureau. The position requires exceptional customer service skills and a keen attention to detail.

The ideal candidate is a team player, and is responsive and proactive when addressing the needs of the community and the Department.  A strong commitment to public service and the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion is critical for the position, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.

BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills posted on its Facebook page on Monday, July 1 that it is hiring. There are open positions in various departments such as Public Works, Beverly Hills Police Department, Community Services and more.

Several full-time positions are available with the Beverly Hills Police Department, which include Communications Dispatcher, Lateral Police Officer, Pre-Service Police Officer (Entry Level). Other positions available include: Parking Supervisor, Senior Recreation Supervisor, Systems Integrator and Water Resources Engineer. Some of the positions start at an annual salary of $74,000 to upwards of $178,000.

Work history is required on the application. A resume submitted in lieu of an application will not be sufficient. Furthermore, “See resume” is not an acceptable response under ‘Work Experience’ section. An application containing such a response may be deemed incomplete. Santa Monica Police Department Hiring Forensic Specialists

SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department is looking to hire Forensic Specialists. Applications are being accepted until Friday, April 26 via the online application process. Only the first 100 qualified applications received will be accepted for further consideration.

The position involves performing technical fingerprinting, photographic, video and computer graphic tasks related to criminal investigation. Identifying, documents, collecting, and preserves physical and biological evidence. They will perform laboratory analysis for developing latent fingerprints by using conventional techniques. In addition, to fingerprint comparisons associated with the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.

Duties for this position include:

-Conducts complex crime scene investigations and utilizes specialized techniques in recognizing, searching, documenting, collecting and preserving physical and biological evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, firearms evidence, plant material, blood spatters, tool mark, and tire track impressions.

-Makes casts of footprints and other impression evidence.

-Documents crime scene utilizing conventional, digital photography including forensic videotaping.

-Performs crime scene sketching and diagraming with the assistance of computer aided software.

-Performs field and laboratory analysis of physical evidence collected at crime scenes and performs subsequent chemical processing for the detection of latent fingerprints, including laser applications such as the use of alternate light sources (ALS).

-Performs presumptive chemical analysis on various types of substances including blood, semen and saliva.

-Produces and stores digital photography using digital image archiving software, video storage. Produces crime scene charts and enlargements.

-Testifies in court as an expert witness in the areas of latent fingerprint analysis, crime scene investigation including the documentation, collection, and preservation of crime scene evidence and/or the results of forensic examination/findings.

-Processes and compares fingerprints found at crime scenes and coordinates with representatives of other law enforcement agencies in the identification of suspects through comparison of fingerprints and in the use of Automated Finger Print Identification Systems (AFIS) and the CAL-ID AFIS system and Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS).

-Prepares court exhibits to depict crime scenes, including latent print comparison charts.

-Prepares detailed reports of crime scene investigation and of the forensic analysis performed.

-Conducts training programs.

Applicants should be in possession of a Possession of a valid Class C driver license and graduated from high school or equivalent. Four years of recent, paid work experience performing fingerprint identification and related photographic work and processing crime scenes for physical evidence.

An Associate’s degree in criminal justice or forensic science or 30 semester units of college level course work in fingerprint classification and identification or a closely related field will substitute for two years of the required work experience. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science or a closely related field will substitute for the four years of required work experience.
