Santa Monica Police Department Prevents Suicide Attempt

SANTA MONICA—On Saturday, December 27, the Santa Monica Police Department prevented a suicide attempt in the downtown area of the city. The incident occurred near the intersection of Broadway and 6th Street, where, after a brief struggle, officers were able to pull a man off a ledge.

According to the SMPD, each year, they handle several hundred suicide or suicide-threat calls. There are programs in the Los Angeles County to support those experiencing severe depression and suicidal thoughts. Such programs include the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, as well as an access line operated by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.

The provide assistance to those suffering from mental health issues.  It also assists teens.  There is also the Trevor Project and a Teen Line that provides young people with a chance to talk with trained counselors.

No additional details about the incident on December 27 has been disclosed to the public.
