MALIBU—The city of Malibu posted on its Facebook page on Monday, October 13 that the Los Angeles County Public Works issued a PHASE 1 mudflow forecast for the Franklin Fire and Palisades Fire burn areas in Malibu.

PHASE 1 includes low risk of debris flows over Palisades Fire burn scars & flash flooding in mountains. The debris flow forecast is valid from Monday October 13, at 10 p.m. through Wednesday October 15, at 6 a.m.

Flash flood watches are under effect over the Franklin and Palisades burn scars, which can trigger life-threatening and damaging flooding and debris flows. Stay alert, be prepared and avoid the region.

Individuals should be prepared for potential mudslides, debris flows, rocks and water in the roads in all recent burn areas, especially canyon roads. It only takes half an inch per hour of rain to start a debris flow. All LA County Fire Stations have sandbags.

Call ahead to check availability of sand and filled bags and visit: www.dpw.lacounty.gov/dsg/sandbags/ for more details.
