Grass Fire In Sherman Oaks Extinguished By LAFD

SHERMAN OAKS—On Friday, September 11, the Los Angeles Fire Department battled a grass fire in Sherman Oaks. The brush fire was reported at 8:15 p.m. on southbound 405 freeway. First arriving fire companies report an approximately 1/4-acre grass fire. No wind and there are no structures threatened.

The LAFD is reporting multiple spots and requested an additional three fire companies. The cause of the fire at this time is unknown and it is reported to be in the park near the Sepulveda dam. The California Highway Patrol was on scene, and the Park Rangers are enroute.

Sepulveda IC reported all forward progress of the fire has been stopped, and the IC reported a knockdown at 2054 hours, approximately 39 minutes from the 911 call. Originally two separate spots burning, now out. One spot 25 feet by 100 feet and a second spot 40 foot by 40 foot. No structures threatened or damaged.

Fire crews will remain on scene to secure the fire and put out any hot spots within the perimeter of the fire. CHP assisted with traffic control and there were no injuries reported.

On September 12, officials noted the fire was extinguished on 8:23 a.m. First arriving fire companies found 5 separate spot fires, all approximately 5 feet in diameter. An Arson suspect was found on scene and is now in custody with the CHP. Fire units remained on scene and are actively ensuring that all hot spots are out. No additional details about the incident have been disclosed.
