BEVERLY HILLS—The Beverly Hills Police Department is currently investigating the death of a male after an incident that transpired on Sunday, August 30. The BHPD reported at approximately 11:39 p.m., officers received a report of an altercation involving two males in the alley of the 400 block of North Palm Drive.
Officers responded to the alley and located a male suffering from a wound to his neck. Authorities rendered aid, and the patient was transported to a local hospital by paramedics with the Beverly Hills Fire Department (BHFD), where he later died.
The other involved individual, a resident of Beverly Hills, sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital by BHFD Paramedics for treatment and evaluation.
BHPD Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and believe it is an isolated occurrence with no other parties involved.
“Our officers responded quickly to this incident and immediately rendered aid to both individuals,” said Beverly Hills Chief of Police Max Subin. “Our detectives are conducting a thorough and diligent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The Beverly Hills Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community and holding those responsible for violence accountable.”
The BHPD announced that with evidence gathered, Conoray Lawantara, 19, of Beverly Hills was arrested on suspicion of murder, in violation of California Penal Code § 187(a). His arraignment date will be determined at a later time of Beverly Hills as he remains in the hospital due to an injury he sustained during the altercation.
The victim has been reported as a homeless man who was digging in trash behind an apartment building. The name and age of the victim have not been disclosed to the public. KTLA 5 reported a neighbor indicated the victim was allegedly walking away before sitting on a couch in the alley and a scuffle occurred, where the victim was stabbed.
