Taylor Roger Free Named As Suspect In Pico Boulevard Homicide

SANTA MONICA—Taylor Roger Free, 35, of San Luis Obispo was arrested around 8 p.m. on July 25 by the Los Angeles Police Department near Exposition Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard, an intersection of the West Adams and Jefferson Park neighborhoods.  Following the arrest, he was taken to the Santa Monica jail.

At 5:21 p.m. on July 25, the Santa Monica Police Department arrived at The Manor, a care and residential facility at 1905 Pico Boulevard, after receiving reports that a woman, Cheyenne Zampino, requiring medical assistance.

Zampino died leading the SMPD to begin a homicide investigation. After speaking with witnesses, the SMPD issued an alert to the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and other regional law enforcement agencies.

On July 28, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office charged Free with one count of murder under Section 187(a) of the California Penal Code, and he is being held on $2,000,000 bail. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Zampino died in the bathroom from sharp-force injuries to the neck.

This investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released to the public.
