SANTA MONICA—On December 11, the Santa Monica Police Department reported that a stolen gun during a shots-fired call was recovered and that the suspect in the case faces a life sentence.

The SMPD reported on November 24 at 12:50 a.m., officers responded to a shots-fired call near the 2000 block of Ocean Avenue. What started as a gunfire investigation quickly revealed a multi-agency crime spree tied to robbery, burglary, and a stolen firearm.

Officers located a concealed .357-magnum revolver inside a rental bicycle near the 1900 block of Ocean Way. CID Detectives obtained video evidence showing the suspect firing the gun and hiding the weapon earlier that night.

The firearm was previously stolen during a burglary in San Fernando PD’s jurisdiction. The suspect and an associate were also connected to a robbery/burglary in LAPD’s Rampart Division about one hour before reaching Santa Monica.

Charges Filed by the District Attorney with the LAPD include: robbery, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm.

Due to an extensive criminal history, the suspect faces a potential life sentence and remains under investigation for additional crimes. The name of the suspect and his age has not yet been disclosed to the public.
