Caltrans reported a slide in the canyon at postmile 1.2. Reports indicate that crews are working on retaining walls, slope stabilization, underground utility operations, creek run-off, repaving… Due to safety concerns, there is no thru-traffic permitted here. This includes cyclists and pedestrians. Entry into the canyon must be made from the north. It is not possible to enter the canyon from the south. The following message came directly from CALTRANS: The closure is to protect the public from serious injuries and fatalities. As Caltrans works to restore the road, it will maintain access for emergency responders. Crews are also monitoring the recovery work zone on State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway, but there are no reported impacts at this time.
