SANTA MONICA—On October 6, the Santa Monica Education Foundation (smedfoundation) announced its annual Pledge Week October 7-11 with donor matched donations up to $50,000. The Santa Monica Educational Foundation (SMEF) awarded the Santa Monica – Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) 2.52 in grants representing funds raised during the 20204-2025 school year generating $2.409 million, up a percent higher than the year prior. This grant is in addition to the previous year’s endowments and the SAMOHI Scholarship Fund. The SMEF issued the following statement. The full text may be viewed on the SMEF website. “The Ed Foundation is honored to manage the Samohi Scholarship Fund, which gives out approximately $184,227 in scholarships to approximately 200 graduating seniors every year. SAMOHI students are incredibly fortunate to be supported by a community of donors who want to assist in their future endeavors. The Samohi Scholarship Fund is run by the Samohi Scholarship Committee, comprised of three college counselors, current and former teachers, community members with a connection to Samohi. Each spring, seniors are invited to apply for a myriad of scholarships. At the end of each school year, there is a ceremony where scholarship funders can meet the student recipients.” The Executive Director of SMEF, Raymur Flynn made the following statement regarding school funding: “Every dollar given this past year is a direct investment in our students’ futures. In a time when public funding falls short of what our children deserve, our donors have stepped up to ensure vibrant, enriching programs remain a core part of a Santa Monica Education.”   By Sharon
