SANTA MONICA—On Monday, September 8, the Santa Monica Police Department assisted the Los Angeles Police Department regarding a felony investigation.

The SMPD reported at approximately 3:19 p.m., using department resources, that its personnel identified a vehicle in the city that was wanted by the LAPD.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver initially failed to yield. The vehicle stopped, and during the encounter, officers discovered the driver was suffering from an injury.

The injury was not the result of actions taken by SMPD personnel and are believed to have occurred prior to the traffic stop. The Santa Monica Fire Department responded to the scene to provide aid to the driver, who was transported to a local area hospital.

The investigation is being led by the Los Angeles Police Department. For additional details, contact the LAPD. At this time, no further information is available from the SMPD and there is no ongoing threat to the community related to the incident.
