Two Victims Shot During House Party

HOLLYWOOD HILLS— On Monday, February 12, a shooting took place during a house party at the 1600 block of North Crescent Heights Boulevard near the Chateau Marmont hotel, Los Angeles Police Department’s Officer Madison confirmed with Canyon News. 

At 12:10 a.m, LAPD officers responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon. Officer units arrived at the scene and located two shooting victims – identified as both male and 24 and 25-years-old – suffering from gunshot wounds. The party and incident reportedly took place at an AirBnb rental property, Officer Madison said. A couple of loaded firearms were located in the bushes of the residence, no further description of the weapons were disclosed nor  if they were the weapons used. 

Both victims were transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.

A video posted on Instagram by @stillbrazy, shows several LAPD officer units at the scene. LAPD Air Ops can also be heard above. Officers appeared to be transporting the victims to a location down the street and away from the scene, to be transported into an ambulance. In the video, one victim – a black male – appears to have been shot in the rear and bleeding. This victim can be seen getting walked from the officer vehicle and transported on a gurney to be put in the ambulance. 

Two possible suspects were apprehended and questioned at the scene, but were later released, Officer Madison said. Suspects remain at-large with no further description disclosed at this time. No other victims or injuries were reported. 

This is an on-going investigation.

Security Guard Fatally Beaten Outside Club

HOLLYWOOD HILLS— A 32-year-old male security guard was fatally beaten by a group of seven to eleven suspects outside of the Dragonfly nightclub at 6510 Santa Monica Boulevard on Sunday, July 30. The Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying and arresting the suspects involved, LAPD released in a statement.  

At around 2:00 a.m., LAPD Hollywood Division officers responded to a radio call about an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arriving, officers were directed to the victim lying on the ground, unconscious and not breathing. 

The victim – whose name has been identified as Daniel, according to Citizen app – was working as a security guard for a Tee Grizzley show, an artist from Detroit, at the venue. A group of seven to eleven, Black males in their 20s, confronted Daniel – for reasons unknown at this time – and caused the victim to lose his footing and fall to the street. The suspects proceeded to kick and stomp on the victim on the ground, then fled on foot heading westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard to southbound Hudson Avenue.

Officers summoned the Los Angeles Fire Department to the scene, who transported Daniel to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The motive behind the brutal attack and the identities of the suspects are unknown at this time. The full identity of the victim, Daniel, has not yet been disclosed either.

U.S Postal Service Offering $50K Reward For Robbery Suspects

STUDIO CITY— The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $50,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest of three suspects responsible for robbing a mail carrier at gunpoint, which occurred on Tuesday, July 11. Suspects were later caught on surveillance footage entering into a Studio City apartment complex with a key and ransacking tenants’ mailboxes.

At around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, near 5522 Vineland Avenue, one suspect – described as a Black male, approximately five foot, eleven inches to six feet tall, 25 to 35-years-old, wearing all black clothing and black sneakers and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun – followed a USPS mail carrier into a business, brandished his gun and stole the carrier’s master keys, Officer Madison told Canyon News. 

The suspect then fled the scene with two other suspects – one described wearing a white face mask, grey hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and white sneakers and the second was the driver of the vehicle who’s description is unknown at this time –  in a black BMW SUV heading northbound on Vineland Avenue. 

Later on that day, a Studio City apartment complex at 12946 Valleyheart Drive was broken into twice and robbed of its mail. Surveillance footage shows a suspect – wearing a black hoodie and white sneakers –  entering the apartment complex with a key around 10 p.m, and robbing mail from tenants boxes. Several hours later, at around 3 a.m., the man can be seen returning with a second suspect to steal more mail. 

The U.S. Postal Service will be replacing the locks on the community’s mailboxes and until then residents will be inconvenienced to pick up their mail directly from local post offices, ABC 7 reported. 

It has not been confirmed if the two incidents, the robbery and the apartment burglarizing, are connected.

Man Shot Dead At Reported Illegal Gambling Operation

HOLLYWOOD HILLS— A fatal shooting that occurred at 3341 West Cahuenga Boulevard – near Universal Studios – left a male victim, believed to be a security guard, dead at the scene on Wednesday, May 31. The suspects remain at-large and an investigation is being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Division, LAPD Public Information Officer Lee told Canyon News. 

At around 3:40 a.m., patrol units from the North Hollywood LAPD Station responded to reports of a fatal shooting at the 3300 block of West Cahuenga Boulevard. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered an “illegal gambling establishment,” as well as a Hispanic male in his early 30s, suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. No further details about his identity are available at this time. 

It appears that two men entered the building through a back entrance – which is listed as a The Roof Hookah Lounge – wearing ski masks and armed with rifles. They were reportedly confronted by a security guard, who reached for his pistol and was shot multiple times by at least one of the suspects.

“This may have been a botched robbery attempt,” Detective Richard Moakley told ABC 7 News. The suspects reportedly searched the building for money for “only a minute” before fleeing empty handed down a back alley.

Approximately 30 people were inside the building – described as a two-story establishment with a hookah lounge on the top floor and  “some sort of gambling operation” on the lower level – at the time of the incident, Moakley said. Poker games were going on simultaneously, ABC 7 News reported. 

Investigators reportedly remained at the scene for 12 more hours following the incident. The number of suspects involved and their identities cannot be confirmed at this time.

Suspects Remain At Large In Hollywood Shooting

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The search continues for two suspects – a male and female – involved in a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and North Highland Avenue on Friday, April 14, Canyon News confirmed with Los Angeles Police Officer Im and Officer Podany. 

At 7:35 p.m., officers from the LAPD Hollywood Division responded to a report that a person was shot in front of the Capital One Cafe, near the Metro Red Line station and TCL Chinese Theatre. 

According to Officer Im, the victim was with two witnesses when the suspects approached and proceeded to get into a fight with one of the witnesses over money. The victim attempted to intervene when the male suspect brandished a gun and shot one round at the victim. Both suspects reportedly fled into the Red Line Hollywood/Highland Metro station platform, as reported via the Citizen app. There is no further information on the suspect’s whereabouts at this time, LAPD Officer Podany confirmed. 

Attendees of the TCM Classic Film Festival – which was taking place at the TCL Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel – received alerts to shelter in place, ABC7 reported.

Suspect one is described as a 20-year-old Hispanic male, with black hair, standing 5 foot and 11 inches and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and carrying a black satchel with white writing on the strap. Suspect two is described as a 24-year-old, White or Hispanic female with black hair, standing 5 foot and 11 inches and weighing 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink jumpsuit. 

The victim – a 37-year-old male – was transported to a nearby trauma center suffering from a reported gunshot wound to the head. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition.

Man Shot At Hollywood Boulevard And Highland Avenue

HOLLYWOOD HILLS— A shooting occurred at Hollywood Boulevard and North Highland Avenue near the Red Line Metro station on Friday, April 14, Canyon News confirmed with Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im. The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for two suspects – a male and female – whose whereabouts are unknown at this time. 

At 7:35 p.m., LAPD responded to a report that a person was shot near the TCL Chinese Theatre. According to Officer Im, the victim was hanging out with two friends when the suspects approached and proceeded to get into a fight with one of the friends over money. The victim intervened and the male suspect brandished a gun and shot one round at the victim. Both suspects fled into the Red Line Hollywood/Highland Metro station. It has not been disclosed whether the suspects got on a train heading towards Universal Studios or if they’re still around the area of the scene. 

Suspect one is described as a 20-year-old male, Hispanic with black hair, five foot eleven inches, 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and carrying a black satchel with white writing on the strap. Suspect two is described as a 24-year old, White or Hispanic female with black hair, five foot eleven inches and 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink sweater and pink pants. 

The victim – a 37-year-old male – has been transported to a nearby trauma center suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was reportedly shot in the head, however LAPD is not able to confirm at this time.

LAPD Offering Reward In The Murder Of Mercy Melissa Martinez

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a suspect – or suspects – involved in the murder of Mercy Melissa Martinez, the LAPD released in a statement on April 12, 2023. 

On June 13, 2022, 28-year-old Martinez’s skeletal remains were found by the workers of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power inside a sewer drain in the Hollywood Hills. The exact location was not disclosed. Detectives found evidence at the scene which prompted them to believe Martinez’s body was placed there by someone else, the LAPD reported. 

Martinez was last seen by her family in April 2021, and was last known to be alive during a police incident on June 15, 2021. She was experiencing homelessness and was dealing with substance abuse issues at the time of her disappearance.

“Mercy was someone very special in our lives and to say we’re heartbroken is an understatement,” Martinez’s family said in a GoFundMe post. “Mercy was a person who always put others happiness before her’s and was always willing to help anyone.”

Martinez is survived by her 14-year-old son, Sandorson, her 7-year-old son, Danny, and her mother. 

LAPD detectives are requesting the public’s help in aiding in the arrest of the suspect(s) involved in her death, as well as any information about Martinez’s whereabouts between the time of her last known contact and the day her remains were discovered.
