Public Encouraged To Support Malibu For Small Business Saturday

MALIBU—The city of Malibu posted on its Facebook page that it is encouraging the public to participate in Small Business Saturday.

Malibu wants to welcome a wave of new local businesses opening. Shoppers can come check out the new restaurants, boutiques, fitness studios, dance studio, Jiu Jitsu studio, home décor and art shop, surf shop, indoor golf range, sunglasses shop, perfumery, and auto-detailing shop.

“This weekend is the perfect chance to show your love for our local shops and restaurants that keep our community unique, creative, and vibrant. Each business in the community brings fresh energy, creates jobs, and builds the gathering places that make Malibu so special,” the city of Malibu posted on its Facebook page.

Steadfast LA Small Business Initiative Grant Application Live

MALIBU/PACIFIC PALISADES—On Thursday, August 14, the city of Malibu announced on its Facebook page that Steadfast, in partnership with Banc of California, is helping small businesses impacted by the Palisades Fire.

Businesses can apply for direct grants up to $50,000 to cover urgent needs, including rebuilding damaged property and covering fire-related expenses.

The LifeFund website states:

“The devastating wildfires in Altadena, Malibu, and Pacific Palisades tested the resolve of the small business community in Los Angeles, but it couldn’t break their spirit. The road to recovery is a process, and financial support is still needed.”

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for the grants.

-Business must have been operating on or before October 1, 2024. Operational is defined as generating sales revenue, as evidenced by activity in a business bank statement. Applicants without a business bank account will not be considered.

-Business is located in Palisades, Malibu or Altadena and applicants must reside in Los Angeles County or contiguous counties

-Applicants must own fewer than three businesses offering similar products or services

-Cannot be a dedicated adult entertainment operation, liquor stores, vape/smoke shops or lending organization

-Grant applicants must be majority owner or equal share ownership of business

-All applicants will be required to hold a video conversation with a LiftFund staff member prior to disbursement

-Operates from a commercial storefront location (no online-only businesses)
Applicant has no more than 100 full-time employees

-Each individual applicant is eligible for only one grant award, regardless of the number of businesses or legal entities (EINs) they own or control

-Generates no more than $6 million in annual gross sales

-Must currently operate, or demonstrate intent to re-open within Altadena, Malibu, or the Palisades and applicants must reside in Los Angeles County or surrounding counties. Out of state applicants will not be considered.

-Applicants must be a legal resident with a valid Social Security Number or ITIN

-Applicants must agree to share their name, likeness, and participate in an on-camera interview

2025 LA Region Small Business Forum

WEST HOLLYWOOD/MALIBU—The city of Malibu announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday, May 21 that the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity and Malibu Commerce is inviting Malibu businesses to the upcoming LA Region Small Business Forums – a two-day event discussing recovery, resiliency and growth.

The Forums will provide small businesses with valuable resources, expert guidance, and on-site services—all under one roof. The forums provide small businesses the opportunity to connect with DEO, County and City agencies, business-serving organizations and partners, and small business peers.

The forums will take place on:

-Wednesday, May 28 at the Pasadena Convention Center located at 300 E. Green St in Pasadena, CA 91101

-Wednesday, June 4 at The Lot at Formosa located at 1041 N. Formose Ave. in West Hollywood, CA 90046.

Both forums will be held between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. There will be exclusive in event giveaways:

-Connect with @Square and receive point-of-sale support through the LA Wildfire Relief Hardware Program

Micro Stabilization Grant Program Helping Malibu Small Businesses

MALIBU—On May 1, the city of Malibu announced on its Facebook page that it is looking to help local businesses in the region with its new Small Business Micro Stabilization Grant Program.

Grants from $5,000 to $20,000 will be awarded to independent businesses impacted by the recent fires, storms and PCH closures. Applications are open May 1 thru May 31.

Eligibility requirements:
-Be located within Malibu City limits
-Have a valid business license issued by December 1, 2024, or statement of exemption
-Demonstrate financial hardship linked to the disasters
-Provide a public benefit to the Malibu community
-Be in good standing with the city of Malibu
