WEST HOLLYWOOD—On Tuesday, July 9, the city of West Hollywood noted on its website it will host a free document shredding, electronic and hazardous household waste collection event for residents and businesses. Community members are invited to bring confidential files and unwanted electronics, including hard drives, and household hazardous waste for shredding and recycling. The hazardous household waste collection is for residents only.

The free event will take place on Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center employee parking lot, located at 355 N. San Vicente Boulevard. This is a drive-through event.

All e-waste, hazardous household waste and documents must be in the trunk prior to arrival. Paperclips, paper clamps, spiral bound notebooks, ringed notebooks must not be included in documents to be shredded.

E-waste will be handled by certified electronics recycler, Homeboy Recycling, that protects the planet and keeps data safe while creating jobs for individuals in the region. All electronics are accepted, with the exception of large appliances, thermostats, light bulbs, and batteries.

BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills will celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 28 at the Farmer’s Market. This will be the 21st year of the Annual Earth Day event. The city indicated on its website that the theme for 2024 is “planet vs. plastic.”

The Public Works department will have a booth with information about Beverly Hills sustainability efforts, vendor and organizations booths, free compost giveaway, and free shredding services for the community take part of on that day.

Earth Day Celebration Events:

Earth Day Celebration at Farmer’s Market, free shredding, e-waste booth and compost give away on April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events are open to all community members.

When it comes to shredding, community members will be able to shred old documents safely, securely and pick up some compost for FREE.

Participants are expected to follow these rules for everyone’s safety:

• Noncompliance with these instructions results in non-participation.
• Please remain in vehicle at all times, and wait for instructions from staff.
• Drop off only.
• 50 pound limit per person.
• Staff will not open vehicle door or enter vehicle cabin.
• First come first serve.
• Stage parking line will be on Burton way in front of courthouse and the corner of Civic Center Dr. Exit through the alley on Foothill Rd

BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills will be hosting a free drive-thru shredding and compost event on Sunday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will transpire at Civic Center Drive and 3rd Street. The event will end at 1 p.m. or whenever the truck is full, whichever transpires first.

Attendees are asked to stay in their vehicles during the event, and wait for instructions from staff. The shredding is for drop off only, first come first served. Staff will NOT open vehicle doors or enter the vehicle cabin. The stage parking line will start at Burton Way in front of the courthouse and the corner of Civic Center Dr. Participants can exit via the alley on Foothill Road.

Shredding will take place on the spot and content can be placed in boxes. Each individual will be allowed to bring 50 pounds per person.

No computer hard drives will be accepted, only paper documents. The company completing the shredding is Shred Source and they are AAA certified by NAID.

Items not accepted during the event include:

-Electronic waste (printers, batteries, computers, cell phones, tablets, etc.)

-Books

-3 ring binders

-Cardboard

-X-rays

-CD’s

-Tapes (VHS, DLT, etc.)

Paper clips, binding clips, rubber bands, staples, hanging folders, clasp folders and envelopes can go through the shredder, these items do not need to be removed from the paper.
