BEVERLY HILLS—On Wednesday, August 13, Colby Gilardian, Public Information Officer for the Beverly Hills Unified School District informed Canyon News via email that they launched a newly redesigned district and school websites, completing seven sites in just two months.

The new look is modern, with better navigation and features designed to better connect students, families, staff, alumni, and the community.

Key highlights of the redesign include:

-Unified District Calendar: A single location where all external school events are posted, making it easier than ever for the community to stay informed and engaged.

-BHHS Virtual Alumni Hall of Fame: In collaboration with the Beverly Hills High School Alumni Association, the new virtual Hall of Fame transforms the existing on-campus display into an accessible, interactive online experience. Visitors from anywhere in the world can explore and celebrate the achievements of distinguished BHHS alumni, keeping their legacy alive for generations to come.

-Unified Menu: One menu that easily allows you to switch between school sites

“We designed this website refresh with our community in mind,” said BHUSD Public Information Officer, Colby Gilardian. “From a unified calendar to an interactive alumni hall of fame, these features make it easier to find what you need while showcasing the pride and excellence of our district.”

“Our schools deserve a digital presence that reflects the quality of education and opportunity we provide. This launch is a major step forward in making sure our communication tools match the exceptional work happening every day in BHUSD,” said Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss.

The redesigned websites are live and can be explored at www.bhusd.org. Visitors are asked to share feedback via the online form available on each site.

SANTA MONICA—On Wednesday, August 21, the city of Santa Monica announced on its Facebook page that its preparing for children to head back to school.

The city of Santa Monica is here to assist with a smooth transition back to the classroom. Five ways the city of Santa Monica supports the community’s students in getting safely to and from school:

-Crossing guards at every SMMUSD campus
-Free rides for K-12 students with the GoPass on Big Blue Bus
-Ongoing pedestrian improvements at our local schools
-School safety tips from Santa Monica Police
-Encouraging carpooling, biking and walking

BEVERLY HILLS—The city of Beverly Hills Police Department announced on its Facebook page that they are reminding drivers to prioritize safety during the upcoming Back to School Month by slowing down, following the speed limit, and being careful driving through school zones.

“During Back to School Month, let’s prioritize safety behind the wheel to protect our children,” said Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark G. Stainbrook. “We urge every driver to slow down, remain alert, and take extra precautions when navigating through school zones. By doing so, we can create a safer environment for everyone and foster a community where safety is a shared responsibility.”

The BHPD offers the following tips to stay safe around schools:

• Slow down and follow the speed limit.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures for dropping off and picking up students.
• Stop for school buses. Watch for children rushing to catch the bus or exiting.
• Whenever possible, avoid blocking the crosswalk while waiting to make a right-hand turn.
• For parents with children walking or biking to school, teach them safe walking and riding behaviors, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, using sidewalks when permissible and available, and crossing at marked crosswalks with stop signs or signals.

Anyone driving behind a school bus with a stop sign and flashing red lights, needs to stop so students can safely get on and off the bus. Drivers must remain stopped while the red lights are on. Drivers in both directions must stop on any two-lane road without a median or a center turn lane.
