Teen Hot Dog Vendors Fight Over Retail Space

WEST HOLLYWOOD—On Sunday, May 10 at approximately 12 a.m., a fist fight broke out between two female hot dog vendors vying over retail space on the corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards. According to reports, the incident began with a verbal altercation that escalated quickly. The two women were beating one another over who got the optimal space at the corner. Bystanders captured the incident on cell phone video that was first published on Instagram by the WeHo Times. The hot dog venders fell to the ground during the brawl. They were close to the crosswalk and oncoming traffic. Multiple reports indicate the hot dog vendors in the region have gotten increasingly aggressive over time. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station were on the scene with the teen vendors reportedly recording every move they make. Security on site, tries to keep underaged youth from entering the night clubs and attempts to resolve problems before they escalate. The State of California Department of Industrial Relations website contains a booklet of information online that lists the conditions that must be met to hire a child under the age of 18. A work permit is required. School attendance and hours worked are also considered. According to the state guidelines, working at midnight on a school night is not permissible for teenagers under 18. Witnesses explained to reporters that this is the nightlife. Vendors are well versed in their rights. No one gets arrested and charged for the disturbances they cause. Two Shootings In One Week In West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD—On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) were dispatched to the 7900 block of Norton Avenue. A couple was reportedly walking with their baby north the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard when a male suspect fired a shot striking that man walking. The suspect fled the scene in a white Nissan Altima. The suspect is still at large. According to reports, the victim had stable vital signs when transported to an area hospital. Local surveillance footage depicted the victim awake and alert as he was being loaded into the hospital for transport. On April 9, the LASD responded to a call of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of North Vista Street South of Santa Monica Boulevard. A shooter fired shots at a woman standing on the balcony at her apartment complex. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she is listed in stable condition. Thieves Spray Best Buy Employees With Mace

WEST HOLLYWOOD—On April 6, at approximately 4:15 p.m. deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriffi’s Department (LASD) West Hollywood Station responded to a call of a burglary at the Best Buy on La Brea in the Gateway Mall located at 7100 Santa Monica Boulevard. Deputies on scene told reporters that, “It was a robbery. This person walked in grabbed two iPads. Loss prevention tried to stop them. They dropped one, picked it back up, and ran out.” According to reports, the suspect involved included a Black female wearing a white top. According to employees, the suspects first attempted to exit through the back door but were unable to get out. The alarms started to sound, and the suspects began to spray the mace. When heading for the front door, the employee made a grab for the iPad, causing the suspect to drop it, and was hit with mace before the suspect’s exit. No further descriptions were given, and the suspects are at large. One Best Buy employee was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Next door and Niche report that West Hollywood has a higher crime rate than the national average with property crime being a significant issue. The latest data available indicates that there is a 1 in 15 chances of becoming a victim of a crime in West Hollywood, the report states.
