LA28 Cycling To End At the Griffith Observatory

LOS FELIZ—It has been announced that the LA28 Olympic cycling event will finish at the Griffith Observatory.

The first road cycling events will take place for the men’s and women’s trails on Day of the Olympic Games on July 19, 2028. The event will start at the LA Zoo. Full details on cycling routes have not been publicly disclosed.

July 22 and July 23 will be the days for the women’s and man’s cycling races that will start at Venice Beach Boardwalk and end at the Observatory.

Belgian Remco Evenepoel, of Belgium back in 2024 was victorious in the man’s cycling road race.

Cycling for the Olympic Games spans four disciplines which include road, track, mountain bike and BMX. Each tests a different combination of speed, endurance and technical skill.

With road cycling, athletes compete in the individual time trial by racing alone against the clock, and the mass-start road race, where large fields navigate long, often tactical courses shaped by terrain and team strategy.

Cycling has been part of the Olympics since 1986. The various cycling events for 2028 include:

Negotiations To Use Santa Monica Pier Begin

SANTA MONICA—On Tuesday, December 9, the Santa Monica City Council met in a closed session related to the future use of the Santa Monica Pier and the beach lot around it. Five topics on the agenda included discussion on the use of Crescent Bay Park, Beach lot 4 South, and the Pier.

Los Angeles is securing appropriate venues to accommodate the upcoming traffic and revenue expected to pour into Los Angeles County during the World Cup, Superbowl, and the US Olympics. Production company, Silverback LLC, is negotiating with the City Council for usage of Crescent Bay Park and Beach Lot 4. Both Anheuser-Bush and ESPN requested the use of the Pier. Concert promoter, Goldenvoice, would like to use 550 square feet of the sand and sea area south of the Santa Monica Pier. Tickets are on sale now for World Cup 2026 at SoFi Stadium for the summer 2026. The 2027 Superbowl LXI is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The French National Olympic and Sports Committee would like to secure the Annenberg Beach House handles France’s Olympic participation/negotiations in overseas territories. They are working tirelessly to secure the proper facilities in advance for the 2028 Olympic Games. Reports indicate that since the Olympics are a national event, they fall under the leadership of U.S. Secret Service. The U.S. Olympics relies on private funding, sponsorships, and broadcasts rights. According to reports, LA28 has secured more than $2 billion in sponsorships. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has undergone a $30 billion renovation to accommodate the crowds. LA Metro has a “Twenty-eight” by “28” initiative in progress to complete 28 transit upgrade projects by 2028. Los Angeles and surrounding areas are implementing initiatives as they get ready to host the 2028 Olympics with tickets on sale starting January 2026   Sharon
