Shayne Suffern Arrested For Attempted Murder

TOPANGA CANYON—On Sunday, August 24, the Los Angeles Police Department announced a suspect was arrested for an attempted murder in Canoga Park.

The LAPD reported on August 21, around 12:30 p.m., a female victim was walking with her 2-year-old child in a stroller in the parking lot near a restaurant on the 6600 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. The suspect, identified as Shayne Suffern, 29, approached the victim and stated, “Give me back my baby.”

The suspect opened his backpack and armed himself with an AR-15 rifle and attempted to fire at the victim.

The rifle malfunctioned. The victim tried to flee from the suspect with her stroller but was chased after the suspect placed his rifle back in his bag.

The victim grabbed her child from the stroller, and the suspect stabbed the victim on the back of her right shoulder with a knife. The victim fled with the child into a restaurant. Suffern returned to his vehicle and fled.

Officers responded and located the suspect in a nearby parking lot. Suffern was taken into custody without incident. The victim sustained a 3-inch stab wound. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in stable condition. The victim’s child was not injured during the incident.

Officers recovered an AR-15 rifle, knife, and a backpack containing multiple rounds from the suspect’s vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and there is no evidence to suggest the suspect and victim know each other.

Suffern was arrested and booked for 187(a) PC – Attempt Murder (Booking #7076300). His bail was set at $5,325,000. His arraignment is set for Monday, August 25.

Child Death Investigation In Canoga Park By LAPD

TOPANGA CANYON—On Friday, July 12, the Los Angeles Police Department, Juvenile Division Abused Child Unit, Valley Bureau Team announced that they are investigating the death of a three-year-old child and the critical condition of their twin sibling that transpired in Canoga Park.

The LAPD reported on July 11, at around 11:20 a.m., LAPD Topanga patrol officers responded to a radio call regarding a child death investigation in the 20000 block of Sherman Way. The mother of twin three-year-old boys discovered them unresponsive. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene, initiated life-saving measures, and transported both children to a local hospital. One of the twins was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other is still in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the children ingested, or were exposed to, an unknown substance. The mother and other residents of the home were transported to the LAPD Topanga Community Police Station for questioning.

The mother of the twin boys, Jestice James, was booked for 187(A) PC – Murder, with booking number 6845401, and bail set at $2,000,000. The other residents of the home are not being investigated further. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspect Wanted In Stabbing Death At Canoga Park

TOPANGA—Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Bureau Homicide are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for killing a man on Monday, June 27.

The LAPD reported at around 7 a.m., Topanga Area patrol officers responded to a stabbing call at the intersection of Deering Avenue and Gault Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a male suffering from stab wounds. The victim was treated by paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department who pronounced him deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was standing on the sidewalk with the suspect and other individuals. The suspect stabbed the victim and fled from the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a blue shirt and black baseball cap.
