PACIFIC PALISADES/GRIFFITH PARK—The Los Angeles Fire Department had to rescue several hikers on Saturday, June 13 in the Pacific Palisades and Griffith Park. The first incident was reported at 11:42 a.m. on 2900 N. Vermont Canyon Road in Griffith Park. Officials responded to a reported hiker rescue near the Bird Sanctuary. Park Rangers on scene assisted the LAFD.

One patient fell approximately 50 feet from the trail. LAFD Air Operations performed a ‘Capture’ operation and rescued the patient. Patient was evaluated medically and transported to a local hospital.

At 12:34 p.m. on Sullivan Fire Road in Pacific Palisades, firefighters responding to a report of a injured mountain biker on a hiking trail.

Air Operations was on the ground, and LAFD paramedics assisted the injured biker. Air Operations performed an Air Ambulance operation. The patient was treated and transported to a local hospital. No additional details were reported.

Three hikers had to also be rescued from Runyan Canyon Road on June 13 at 10:57 a.m. in the Hollywood Hills West area. 1 of the 3 individuals received medical treatment during the incident. There is nothing further to report the LAFD stated.

SANTA MONICA—A mountain biker was injured while riding in the Santa Monica Mountains on Saturday, December 11. He was rescued by Los Angeles Fire Department officials near the Pacific Palisades and Encino region. 

The report was made before 11:30 a.m. along Topanga State Park. The 23-year-old cyclist was found critically injured. He was wearing a helmet. He sustained injuries to his head, arm, and shoulder. Officials were present to medically assist him. 

Rescue helicopters were able to rescue the biker and he was airlifted to a regional trauma center. The name of the biker has not been released. His current condition has not been made public.

BRENTWOOD—On Saturday, July 31, at approximately 8:27 a.m., firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the 2600 block of North Westridge Road in Brentwood for a mountain biker rescue.

“A 37-year-old male mountain biker sustained traumatic injuries in a remote area of Mandeville Canyon,” LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said in an official announcement.

LAFD Air Ops lowered a firefighter-paramedic rescuer to provide treatment and prepared the patient for a hoist operation. The LAFD air ambulance transported the patient to a local trauma center for further care.

The condition of the patient was not immediately known at the time of transport.
