GRIFFITH PARK—On October 15, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday, October 14, at approximately 11:30 p.m. The crash involved a black Nissan Pathfinder, a black Honda Civic, a white Toyota Camry and an overturned semi-truck in the northbound lane of 5-Freeway resulting in an oil spill. According to CHP officer Elizabeth Kavig, the semi-truck driver lost control of the vehicle. Consequently, it tipped over crashing into the other vehicles in its path blocking traffic onto Ventura Freeway (134). Roads in the area were reportedly shut down until October 15 at approximately 5:00 a.m. due to the fuel and debris clean up. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported the following information on the LAFD Alert page: “Hazardous Materials, Sun Valley-Box truck on its side (corrected to upright) with a fuel leak from the saddle tank (fuel tank which sits alongside a truck’s frame). Firefighters stopped the leak and are working to contain any run-off. It is a static situation with no serious injuries. Two patients – one declining LAFD transport and one being evaluated). A reduced number of resources will handle the incident. Traffic will remain impacted on the SB 5 for an undetermined period of time.”   By Sharon
