SANTA MONICA—At around 4:30 p.m. on August 29, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department and the Santa Monica College Police Department responded to a report of an individual on the Santa Monica College campus who was alleged to be armed with a gun.
He was standing on 14th Street, which prompted the officers to establish a perimeter and search the campus and surrounding area.
At 6:10 p.m., the SMPD announced that it had completed its search of the campus and found no suspect.  Officers reviewed video and concluded there was no information to confirm the initial report made about the alleged gunman.
There is no credible threat to the campus at this time, but authorities were maintaining a presence in the region.
No additional details have been released to the public.
Canyon News reached out to the SMPD for comment.  It was told that the SMPD had received a report of a verbal argument between some at the college and a man who it was alleged possessed a firearm in his waistband.  This report was unverified.   After the SMPD and College Police Department investigated, they could not confirm the report was accurate.
