SANTA MONICA—The city of Santa Monica announced on Tuesday, September 8 that the National Weather Service issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Santa Monica from Wednesday, September 9 from 8 a.m. to Thursday, September 10 thru 8 p.m.

As a result of the dangerously hot conditions, residents can go to a Santa Monica public library for cooling needs. Locations can be viewed at: www.santamonica.gov/library-locations-and-hours.

Los Angeles County is known for its year-round great weather, but when temperatures increase during the summer months, the heat can be dangerous. Use the resources below to prepare for and stay safe during periods of excessive heat.

Use the map: https://ready.lacounty.gov/heat/ to find the Cooling Center closest, or view a list of Cooling Center sites and details. The list is presented alphabetically by name.

Unless otherwise indicated in the notes section about the site, each Cooling Center is open to the public during the hours listed, has functioning air conditioning, bathrooms, and drinking water, and is ADA accessible.

During extreme heat events, some sites may be designated as “Augmented Cooling Centers,” meaning that they are open for extended hours. During those times, the Augmented Cooling Centers will appear on the map with a gray icon instead of a green icon and with their updated hours listed.
