SMPD Investigating Shooting Near Pier Ramp, Juvenile Arrested

SANTA MONICA—On Sunday, August 23, the Santa Monica Police Department announced that at approximately 7:49 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting near the Pier ramp.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a victim was approached by a group of individuals and an altercation occurred during an attempted robbery. During the altercation, one individual fired a weapon, striking the victim in the leg.

Officers provided emergency medical aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The individuals fled the scene. Officers are actively investigating and working to identify and locate those involved. Additional confirmed information will be released as it becomes available.

Lt. Gilmour with the SMPD informed Canyon News that a juvenile suspect was taken into custody later that evening in connection with the incident. Investigators are working to determine the juvenile’s role in the attempted robbery and shooting. Detectives continue working to identify and locate the remaining individuals involved.
