SCE Announces More Public Safety Power Shutoffs This Year

MALIBU—On June 26, the city of Malibu announced on its Facebook page that Southern California Edison (SCE) announced that communities in Southern California, including Malibu, should prepare for additional, longer-lasting PSPSs this year.

With wildfire conditions intensifying across the region, as a result of unusually dry vegetation and high temperatures — SCE already initiated three PSPSs in 2025 and expects more could be necessary as the season progresses.

While the Franklin and Palisades Fires have cleared much of the flammable vegetation in parts of eastern Malibu, there is still a risk of new fires this season. This can transpire during periods of hot, dry Santa Ana winds and dry fuels, the potential for fires could impact lives and homes remains. Residents are asked to stay prepared through the October to December fire season.

Power outages could last eight hours or more, depending on weather and fire danger levels. Residents are asked to be prepared. Power will not be restored until it’s safe to and infrastructure has been fully inspected.

Residents can sign up for alerts from SCE at: www.sce.com/pspalerts and city of Malibu: www.MalibuCity.org/News.
